Norman, Bator lead way as MCLA hosts Invitational at Berkshire Hills

Pittsfield, MA- The MCLA Golf team hosted their annual Trailblazer Invitational this afternoon at Berkshire Hills Country Club in Pittsfield, MA.  The event was very competitive as Westfield State took home the team title by edging Elms and Roger Williams with a score of 313.

Castleton University's Jacob Erwin and Roger Williams' Ryan Burrill shared medalist honors with a one over par 73.  Erwin was declared the champion via a match of cards after both players tied during a two hole playoff.  Erwin took the title by shooting a back nine score of one under par 36 while Burrill posted a 38 on the back nine at BHCC.

Elms' John Keegan and Westfield's J.J. Newcombe finished T-3 with a 76 over the 6,500 yard par 72 layout.  RWU's Jake Brennan and Westfield's Matteo Godek rounded out the top five with 78's.

Westfield was consistent across the board as every player shot 82 or better.  Led by Newcombe and Godek, the Owls were off to a good start.  Ryan Koczela carded a 79 and when Michael Waldman posted an 80, the Owls set the bar with 313.

Elms also posted some great scores led by Keegan's 76.  Frankie Murray and Josh Keaton each carded 79's and when Matt King signed for an 80, the Blazers posted 314, just a stroke shy of the Owls.

Roger Williams also came up just short as they totaled 315.  Following Burrill and Brennan for the Hawks was James Cannon, who carded an 81.  RWU's Ben DeFelice added an 83 to round out the scoring.

MCLA was led by Nick Bator's 79.  Brett Norman had a great day for MCLA shooting a season best 80.  The Trailblazers posted their best score of the early season with a 354 total.
