WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The MCLA Men's Ice Hocke team returned to the Lansing Chapman Rink on the campus of Williams College for the first time since the season-opening meeting of the teams during the 2002-2003 season. Sam Zis gave the Trailblazers an early lead about midway through the first period, but the Ephs came back with three goals in the third period to secure a 3-1 win.

THE BASICS:

  • Date: Wednesday, January 15, 2025
  • Score: MCLA 1, Williams 3
  • Records: MCLA Trailblazers 1-12-0 (MASCAC 1-5-0) | Williams College Ephs 5-7-1 (NESCAC 3-5-0)

HOW IT WENT DOWN

  • MCLA opened the scorebook with just under eight minutes remaining in the first period. The Ephs attempted to clear the puck from their end only to find sophomore defenseman Colin Ogborn (Linwood, NJ / Philadelphia H.C.) standing at the middle of the blue line, keeping his team onside. Sophomore forward Sean Schifferl (Fort Myers, FL / N.H. Monarchs) collected the puck from Ogborn and skated to the right boards and wristed a shot toward the net, where freshman forward Sam Zis (Boulder, CO / Connecticut Chiefs) gave a redirect through the goalie's five hole. The goal was Zis' second of the season, and the assists were the first of the year for Ogborn and Schifferl.
  • After a scoreless second period, the sleeping bear awoke in the third stanza, ending with Williams putting up three goals in a span of four and a half minutes. The first goal went to Owen Stadheim (at 4:00, assisted by Bobby Corkery and Jared Lambright), the second to Conner Fitzpatrick (6:59, Connor Berg and David Vieten), and the third was unassisted by Jack McManus (8:29).
  • The Ephs' Kael DePape (W, 1-0-0) garnered his first collegiate win, stopping 22 of the 23 shots he faced. It was another tough-luck loss for Mathew Gover on the Trailblazers' side, falling to 1-12-0 after stopping 43 of the 46 shots he faced.
