Husson Pulls Away Late In 17-10 NAC Win Over Lacrosse

BANGOR, Maine—The MCLA Lacrosse team, despite a challenging 2024 North Atlantic Conference schedule, showed their resilience this afternoon when they traveled to Husson University for a matchup with the Eagles at John P. Boucher Field. The Eagles were consistent, scoring at least four goals in each quarter, led by a four-goal performance by Matt Boynton and a hat trick by Aidan Byers. The Trailblazers got a pair of goals each from Luke Rhoss, Sean Neu and Anthony Andolina.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • MCLA scored the first goal with just under three minutes off the clock when James Julian (12:19, unassisted) scored his first collegiate goal. Husson responded with a pair of goals by Matt Boynton 13 seconds apart to take the early lead.
  • The Trailblazers responded with a pair of goals to retake the lead. Luke Rhoss (7:18, unassisted) tied the game, and Josh Hemstock (5:48, assisted by Rhoss) scored his second of the season to put MCLA back in front. The lead was short-lived as the Eagles scored 29 seconds later to tie the game and kicked off a run of six straight goals across the end of the first and the start of the second quarters.
  • MCLA's Boden Dock (2:02, unassisted) ended the Husson run with just over two minutes left in the first half, finding the back of the cage for the eighth time this year. Drew Clinch added one more tally for the hosts, sending the teams into the intermission at 9-4.
  • The teams traded goals to start the second half. Rhoss (14:22, unassisted) started the half quickly, scoring his 17th goal of the season less than 40 seconds into the quarter. Aidan Byers (10:52, Sean Lyne) tallied for the Eagles as the clock ticked under the 11-minute mark.
  • Four and a half minutes later, Sean Neu (6:22, Hemstock) cut the lead back to four goals, 10-6. Lyne responded with a goal and an assist to stretch the lead back to six.
  • Anthony Andolina (3:26, Dock and 1:16, unassisted) then scored a pair of goals, the first a man-up goal and the second being his 15th of the season. Clinch scored for the Eagles to close out the period for the second time in as many quarters. It was also the second time in the game that the hosts carried a run of goals across two quarters, scoring five unanswered goals.
  • The Trailblazers then added a pair of last-minute goals. The first was Neu's 10th of the season (0:54, unassisted), and the second was Christian Nawrocki's second of the year (0:40, Hemstock).
  • Husson's Odin Burk stopped seven shots to even his record at 3-3. MCLA's Neal Brierly picked up 22 saves but still saw his record fall to 1-6.
