Lacrosse Can’t Overcome Early Deficit, Fall to SUNY Delhi

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – The MCLA Lacrosse team welcomed SUNY Delhi to Shewcraft Field this afternoon for a North Atlantic Conference matchup with the Broncos. Delhi's Chris Lazazzaro scored seven goals and assisted on two more to power the visitors past the Trailblazers, 20-6.
THE BASICS:
- Date: Wednesday, April 9, 2025
- Score: SUNY Delhi 20, MCLA 6
- Records: SUNY Delhi Broncos 7-4 (NAC 2-1) | MCLA Trailblazers 1-7 (NAC 0-2)
- Series History: SUNY Delhi leads the all-time series 4-0, including a 17-2 win last year on April 19th in Delhi. The Broncos also won the first-ever meeting by a score of 13-4 on April 1, 2022, in North Adams.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Broncos poured it on early, scoring eight goals in the first quarter and adding five more in the second quarter, all before MCLA scored its first goal with 72 seconds remaining in the first half. Sophomore midfielder Neal Brierley (North Adams, MA) (1:12 remaining in the second quarter, unassisted) netted that first goal, allowing the Trailblazers to enter the intermission down 13-1.
- SUNY Delhi came out of the break to tack on four more goals to bring their lead to 17-1 just over three minutes into the second half.
- MCLA did respond with a run of three goals late in the third quarter. The goals were credited to junior attacker Anthony Andolina (Ballston Spa, NY) (9:20, assisted by Roadcap), sophomore midfielder Ty Roadcap (Troy, NY), and Brierley (2:08, assisted by Quentan Polkowski). Brierley's second goal for the game brought his season total to an even dozen.
- The fourth quarter looked very similar to the ones before it, with the Broncos adding three more goals against a pair of goals by the Trailblazers. The MCLA goals were the second of the game for both Andolina (6:12, unassisted) and Roadcap (2:39, unassisted). Andolina's goal came on a blind over-the-shoulder shot from about 10 yards out. The goals raised Andolina and Roadcap's season totals to 12 and three goals, respectively.
- Delhi's Chris Lazazzaro led all scorers with seven goals on 11 shots, nine of which were on goal. Lazazzaro also added a pair of assists. Jagger Beachak added four more goals for the Broncos.
- Jayden Messina allowed one goal on five shots to pick up the win for the Broncos, improving his record to 7-4. Freshman goalie Quentan Polkowski (Marcellus, NY) made 31 saves, but fell to 0-4.
