Basile nets two goals as MCLA Men's Soccer earns key 2-1 road win at Fitchburg

Fitchburg, MA- MCLA's Anthony Basile tallied a pair of goals including the game winner in the 78th minute in leading the Trailblazers to a 2-1 victory over Fitchburg State.  The Trailblazers earned a key MASCAC road win as they improved to 5-4 overall and 2-1 in league play.  The Falcons even their mark at 5-5 and are now 1-2 in the MASCAC.

Basile put MCLA out in front in the opening half as he connected off a Tyler Vona feed in the 31st minute to put the Trailblazers in front 1-0.  The score would hold until halftime, even though Fitchburg held a 10-7 shot advantage.

The host Falcons kept pressuring MCLA and tied it up in the 58th minute when Simon Vikoler knocked home a Steven Martinez pass tying the game at 1-1.  Fitchburg would continue to pressure, however they couldn't get the go ahead goal past Matt Robinson.

Basile would once again impose his will in the 78th minute.  He scored his team leading fifth marker of the season unassisted to put the Trailblazers ahead to stay.  Robinson would make the lead stand up collecting a pair of saves down the stretch.

Fitchburg owned a 21-13 shot advantage over MCLA, however the Trailblazers held a slim 6-5 lead in corner kicks.

Robinson earned the win stopping a season high 10 shots.  Aidan Hanratty was saddled with the loss making six saves.

MCLA is back in action on Tuesday when they travel to SUNYIT for a non league matchup.
