Men's Soccer set to host Worcester State in MASCAC Quarterfinal Tuesday at 1:30
North Adams, MA- The MCLA Men's Soccer team earned a three seed and as a result will host 6th seeded Worcester State on Tuesday at 1:30 at Shewcraft Field in the opening round of the MASCAC Quarterfinal round. The Trailblazers are looking to avenge an earlier loss to the Lancers in a match played in early October.
Westfield State is the top seed in the tournament and Framingham State is the second seed. Both programs have received byes into the semi final round which will be played Friday.
Back on October 10th, MCLA came out hot early jumping ahead 2-0 on a pair of goals from Kwadwo Kusi. The score would remain that way heading into halftime. From there, the Lancers mounted a rally. They scored in the 47th minute and ultimately tied the contest with just under seven minutes remaining. The game would eventually head to overtime where WSU's Bryan Brasil would connect just 1:18 into OT giving the Lancers the come from behind victory. Worcester outshot MCLA 20-12 in the early season win and held a 9-4 edge in corner kicks.
Third seeded MCLA is led on offense by junior Anthony Basile. He has tallied a team high 9 goals and 19 points. Basile didn't play in the early season matchup. Dylan Pereira is also a threat for MCLA cumulating 5 goals and 3 assists for 13 points. Six other Trailblazers have found the back of the net in 2015. Kamron Anderson is expected to start in goal for MCLA as he's started in every MASCAC match to date. He has recorded 3 shutouts and stopped 105 shots on the season.
The sixth seeded Lancers went 3-4 over the course of the MASCAC season and are led on offense by Bryan Brasil He has amassed 10 goals and 5 assists for a total of 25 points. Andre Ipojuca is dangerous as well collecting 5 goals and an assist for 11 points. Ryan Kinsella and George Siotis each have three tallies on the season. Worcester has rotated keepers all season long as both Jason Barrett and Tim Schmidt have each earned 8 starts.
Tuesday's winner will move on to Friday's semifinal round at either Westfield or Framingham State.
