Men's Soccer falls to UMB in CIAO Soccer finals

North Adams, MA- The UMass Boston Men's Soccer team improved to 5-0 and claimed the 2016 CIAO Soccer Classic Championship by virtue of a 6-0 victory over the MCLA Trailblazers at Shewcraft Field.  The Beacons earned the title by earning wins against Union yesterday on top of today's victory.  MCLA drops to 2-3 on the season with the loss.

Ocane Williamson once again paced the offense with a pair of goals for UMB.

The offense started early for the Beacons as Arlindo Goncalves converted a Mohamed Kenawy cross in the fourth minute for an early 1-0 lead.  Just three minutes later, Kenawy got on the board himself as he beat MCLA keeper Kamron Anderson to make it 2-0 Beacons.

Williamson would get on the board in the 26th minute knocking home a cross from Daniel Morales to make it 3-0.  In the 33rd minute, Matt Coakley would slam home a Klismam Mendes pass making it 4-0 Beacons.  The score would remain that way into halftime as UMB outshot the Trailblazers 14-3 in the opening half.

Williamson scored unassisted scored early in the second half and then Gabriel Gomes-Pereira tallied in the 66th minute to push the lead to 6-0.

Sandro Van Kuijck recorded two saves in the first half to secure the win for UMass-Boston.

MCLA is back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Cobleskill for a non league match.
