Lopez free kick leads Men's Soccer to season opening win

Cobleskill, NY- A 40-yard free kick by MCLA's Marcos Lopez (Albany, NY) in the 16th minute would find the back of the net and prove to be enough as the Trailblazers would hold on for a 1-0 nonconference victory in their season opener at SUNY Cobleskill.

The Trailblazers had several opportunities to add a second goal including a Naiyar Fraser (Berlin, CT) header in the 20th minute that found the post and Jacob Malburg (Amesbury, MA) shot in the closing minutes of the first half which hit the crossbar.

MCLA would control play in the second half holding Cobleskill to only two shots in the second half on their way to the 1-0 victory.

Overall MCLA outshot Cobleskill (14-6) putting 6 on net, forcing Tiger keeper John Gergen to make five saves in a losing effort. Sam Edge (Williamstown, MA) would earn his first win and shutout of the season stopping three Cobleskill shots.

SUNY Cobleskill (0-1) next will travel to SUNY Maritime this Saturday. MCLA (1-0) will also be in action on Saturday at 2:30pm as they host Eastern Nazarene in the MCLA Soccer Classic.
