Richardson goal gives Men’s Soccer MASCAC win over Mass Maritime 1-0

Buzzards Bay, MA- As they did in the first-round of the MASCAC play-offs nearly a year ago, MCLA made the long trek to Buzzards Bay and shut out Mass Maritime in Clean Harbors Stadium tonight, this time by a score of 1-0. With the victory the Trailblazers improve to 4-5-1 (1-1-1 MASCAC) while the Buccaneers fall to 1-7-1 (0-2-1 MASCAC).

The lone goal would occur in the 32nd minute when MCLA senior Wesley Call (Ashby, MA) took a ball from just over midfield, dribbled for 40-yards up the left side and managed to get a pass through to sophomore Jacob Richardson (Adams, MA) who found the back of the net for his first career goal to give the Trailblazers the 1-0 advantage.

As the match wore on quality scoring chances would prove elusive allowing Richardson's goal to stand as the game winner and MCLA to earn its first MASCAC victory of the 2022 campaign.

Both teams finished with 15 shots. Mass Maritime had a slight advantage in corners (4-3).

Mass Maritime sophomore goalkeeper Quinn Kelly (West Roxbury, MA) made 4 saves on the night but falls to 1-7-1. MCLA senior keeper Sam Edge (Williamstown, MA) stopped 3 Buccaneers shots and improves to 3-4-1.

Mass Maritime will next travel to take on nonconference opponent UMASS Dartmouth on Tuesday at 7pm. MCLA is back in action Sunday traveling to Husson University for an 11am nonconference kickoff with the Eagles.
