Men’s Soccer falls to Framingham State 4-1

North Adams, MA- Framingham State scored three first-half goals, including one just 27 seconds into the match, on their way to a 4-1 win over MCLA tonight at Shewcraft Field. With the win the Rams improve to 8-3-1 (4-0 MASCAC) while the Trailblazers fall to 4-7-1 (1-2-1 MASCAC).

Framingham State opened the game with a clever one-touch passing sequence that resulted in first year Gustav Hemmingsen (Copenhagen, Denmark) sliding a shot just past MCLA senior keeper Sam Edge (Williamstown, MA) from a tough angle to give the Rams the early 1-0 advantage.

In the 13th minute Framingham State junior Jeffson Malachie (Port-au-Prince, Haiti) would find the top right corner of the net to make it 2-0. Just less than seven minutes later Malachie would strike again, this time indirectly from a Ram corner kick to stretch the lead to 3-0.

MCLA would play the Rams even for the better part of the next hour. But in the 72nd minute a mishandled ball played back to the keeper would be stolen by Joshua Monteiro (Randolph, MA) and the first year would tap it into the open net to make it 4-0.

The Trailblazers were able to mount some offensive pressure late. In the 87th minute a tremendous effort by first year Justice Daniels (Pittsfield, MA) would earn MCLA a penalty kick which sophomore Marcos Lopez (Albany, NY) would put home for his 3rd goal on the season and put the home team on the board.

Framingham State had a decisive advantage in shots (32-4) and corners (7-3).

Ram junior goalkeeper Jake Hartshorn (Chelmsford, MA) would earn the shutout making 1 save and improves to 7-2. Trailblazer keeper Sam Edge would take the loss making 10 saves and falls to 3-6-1.

Framingham State will next travel to Trinity College next Tuesday evening for a 7pm nonconference match. MCLA will be off for just over a week when they return for a MASCAC matchup at Fitchburg State Saturday, October 15th at 4pm.
