Men’s Soccer blanks Fitchburg State 3-0

Fitchburg, MA- A Marcos Lopez (Troy, NY) goal in the 48th minute would give MCLA a 1-0 lead and prove to be the game winner as the Trailblazers would go on to shutout Fitchburg State 3-0 this afternoon at Elliot Field. With the win MCLA improves to 5-7-1 (2-2-1 MASCAC) while Fitchburg State falls to 1-11-1 (0-4-1 MASCAC).

After a scoreless first half the Trailblazers would break the tie as Lopez would collect a loose ball following a direct free kick and put it past the Falcon goalkeeper in the 48th minute. Less than three minutes later Lopez would assist on Jacob Malburg's (Amesbury, MA) 3rd goal of the season to push the lead to 2-0.

In the 72nd minute Wesley Call (Ashby, MA) would put the match away scoring his 2nd goal of the season to make it 3-0 and give the Trailblazers their second league win of the season.

MCLA keeper Sam Edge (Williamstown, MA) made 6 saves and earned his 5th shutout of the season improving to 4-6-1.

The Trailblazers outshot the Falcons 13-11. Fitchburg State would edge MCLA in corners 4-3.

Fitchburg State will visit Plymouth State next Tuesday for a nonconference match at 3pm. MCLA will be off until next Friday evening when it will take on the reigning MASCAC Champions Salem State at 6pm.
