Men’s Soccer falls to Worcester State 3-0 in first round of MASCAC Tournament

Worcester, MA- Worcester State's Manny Ramirez assisted on two goals this afternoon leading the Lancers to a 3-0 first round MASCAC tournament victory over MCLA. With the win Worcester State improves to 9-3-6 (4-0-3 MASCAC) and advances to the semi-final round on Friday at #2 seed Salem State. With the loss MCLA ends its season with a 5-11-1 (2-4-1 MASCAC) record.

The Lancers asserted themselves from the outset and carried play throughout most of the match with MCLA struggling to sustain much offensive possession.

Worcester State's Tyler Gavaletz would open the scoring in the 15th minute as he took a ball from Ramirez down the right side and then cut back past the MCLA defender to get off a shot beating MCLA goalkeeper Sam Edge in the far-left top corner of the net. It was the first goal of the season for Gavaletz and it gave the Lancers an early 1-0 lead.

In the 63rd minute a Ramirez free kick from 40 yards out would find teammate Luke-Mark Anu who was able to head the ball across the line giving Worcester State a 2-0 advantage.

Lancer Brady Iovanni would ice the match in the 77th minute when he was able to put a rebound in the back of the MCLA net securing the 3-0 result.

Worcester State goalkeeper Andy Ramirez made 4 save in the win and improves to 4-2-1. MCLA keeper Sam Edge made 12 saves enduring the loss and ends the season with a 5-11-1 mark.

The Lancers enjoyed decisive advantages in shots (23-9) and corner kicks (8-3).
