Men’s Soccer Tame Cobleskill with 3-0 Season Opening Win

NORTH ADAMS, Mass.- MCLA freshman Reynaldo Castro finished the day with a goal and an assist and junior keeper Ryan Taylor earned his first career solo shutout to help lead the Trailblazers to a convincing 3-0 season opening win this afternoon at the Zavattaro Athletic Complex.

After an opening stretch of sustained pressure sophomore forward Jacob Malburg would score his first goal of the young campaign in the 9th minute beating Cobleskill goalie Adam Champlin on a strike that found the far-left corner of the goal to put the hosts up 1-0.

In the 27th minute Champlin would get a piece of an Avery Manzolini blast, but it wouldn't be enough to keep the ball out of the net as the Trailblazers took a 2-0 advantage into halftime.

MCLA kept the pressure on and continued to dominate possession in the second half until finally in the 65th minute Castro would put the game away scoring off a rebound to make it 3-0.

The Trailblazers outshot Cobleskill 31-4 forcing Champlin to make 10 tough saves. Taylor was never really challenged only having to make two stops in the win.

Cobleskill will next host SUNY Potsdam tomorrow at 2pm and MCLA will travel to Eastern Connecticut on Wednesday for a 4pm tilt.
