Late Potsdam Goal Spoils Men’s Soccer Classic Day

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass.— Justin Morey's goal in the 77th minute was enough to give SUNY Potsdam a 1-0 win today over the MCLA Men's Soccer team in the final match of the 2023 MCLA Soccer Classic. With the win the Bears improve to 3-0 while the Trailblazers fall to 1-2.

Following a relatively evenly played first half in which both teams registered 4 shots on net, it was Potsdam that carried most of the play to begin the second, forcing MCLA keeper Ryan Taylor to make several impressive stops.

Play would migrate towards the visitor's defensive end in the middle of the second half but eventually it would be Potsdam's Justin Morey who broke in free and beat Taylor on the far side to give the Bears a lead 1-0 lead in the 77th minute.

MCLA's best scoring chance came five minutes later when Reynaldo Castro's free kick from just outside the box grazed off the crossbar to preserve Potsdam's one goal advantage.

Potsdam outshot MCLA 19-14 with Bears keeper Lucas Schiel (W, 2-0) making 6 saves. Taylor (L, 1-2) turned away seven shots in the loss.

The Trailblazers are back in action on Tuesday travelling to take on Lesley University at 7pm.
