Men’s Soccer Takes Down Lesley with 3-0 Road Win

LEXINGTON, Mass.—The MCLA Men's Soccer team earned an impressive 3-0 nonconference road decision tonight against Lesley University. With the win the Trailblazers even their record at 2-2 while the Lynx fall to 1-4.

Stifling MCLA pressure deep in the Lesley end led to a costly turnover in the 19th minute when freshman Reynaldo Castro outmuscled a Lynx defender, carved out just enough space and ripped a left-footed shot past the Lynx net minder for his second goal of the season to give the Trailblazers a 1-0 lead.

In the 62nd minute MCLA made the Lynx pay again when they failed to clear a ball following a Benjamin Bonsu corner. Jose Sandoval would settle the attempted clearance then make a subtle move to freeze the charging defender before crushing a ball from nearly 30 yards out that beat the keeper short side. It would be Sandoval's first career goal and it put the Trailblazers up 2-0.

MCLA was not quite done. A Conor Green throw-in from the left sideline found its way to the feet of Avery Manzolini on the left edge of the box in the 69th minute. The sophomore forward managed to control the ball towards the middle before sliding the ball back against the grain with the outside of his left foot to put the visitors up 3-0

The Trailblazers outshot the hosts 14-9. Lesley goalie Josiah Williams (L, 1-4) made 3 save in the loss. MCLA goalkeepers Richard Schineis (W, 1-0) and Oliver Le Lacheur combined for the clean sheet stopping 4 total Lynx shots.

Both teams begin their conference schedules this Saturday as Lesley hosts Maine-Farmington at 3pm and MCLA begins its MASCAC schedule on the road this against Framingham State at 2pm.
