HIGHLIGHTS

  • MCLA jumped out to an early lead thanks to a goal from Jacob Malburg in the eighth minute. Michael Smith dribbled into the bottom of the box and sent a pass through traffic to a waiting Malburg, who settled the ball down and fired a shot into the lower left corner of the goal, just ahead of the dive of the Owls keeper. The goal was Malburg's third of the season and seventh of his career. Smith's assist is the first of his career.
  • The Trailblazers doubled their lead in the closing minute of the first half on the foot of Marcos Lopez. Off a throw-in by Connor Green to Avani Richardson in the left corner, who passed the ball out to Jacob Richardson for a long shot towards the front of the net. An Owls defender headed out the shot, but it rebounded directly to Marcos Lopez about five yards out of the box. Lopez then had a straight-on strike into the upper right corner of the goal. It was the second time this season that Lopez found the back of the net and the sixth tally of his career. The assist for Avani Richardson was his second of the season, while Jacob Richardson's was his first.
  • The Owls scored their goals in the 54th minute (by Paul Whalley, unassisted), 61st minute (Santino Mazza, assisted by Ryan Denehy and Matthew Allen), and the 89th minute (Mazza, assisted by Carter Hebert).
  • Despite a shaky first half, Luke Theroux improved his season record to 4-2-0 while making nine saves. Trailblazers' keeper Ryan Taylor saw his record drop to 1-4-1.
