Men’s Soccer Record First MASCAC Win of the Season

Worcester, Mass – Behind a shutout by freshman goalkeeper Oliver Le Lacheur in his first career start and the first MCLA goal for sophomore transfer David Kankam, the Trailblazers broke through for their first MASCAC win of the season.

THE BASICS:

  • Date: Saturday, October 7, 2023
  • Score: MCLA 1, Worcester 0
  • Records: MCLA Trailblazers 4-4-1 (MASCAC 1-2-1) | Worcester State Lancers 2-5-3 (MASCAC 1-3-0)

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The game's only score followed a free kick from about 65 yards away from the net. Alec Pawliczek headed it down to the foot of Jacob Malburg, whose shot was saved by the Lancers goalie but rebounded directly to David Kankam, who put the ball in the back of the wide-open net.
  • Trailblazers' keeper Oliver Le Lacheur made his first career start in today's game. He was under consistent pressure because the Lancers enjoyed a 22 to seven advantage on shots, including an 11 to three edge in shots on goal. The victory improved his record to 1-0-0 on the year.
  • The Lancers keeper, Andy Ramirez, made two saves on three shots on goal while seeing his 2023 record drop to 2-3-2. The loss snapped a two-game winning streak against Fitchburg State and Clark.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • The Trailblazers were held to their lowest quantity of shots so far this season in pulling out the win. The seven shots on goal were the first time they were held to single digits. The Trailblazers had a 76-14 edge in shots over their last two games, including a 54-3 advantage against VTSU Lyndon on September 26th.
  • This is also the second time in three years that the Trailblazers have handled Ramirez, defeating the Lancers 2-1 while he was in net in 2021 and falling to him 1-0 last year.
