THE BASICS:

  • Date: Wednesday, October 11, 2023
  • Score: MCLA 1, SUNY Poly 3
  • Records: MCLA Trailblazers 4-5-1 (MASCAC 1-2-1) | SUNY Polytechnical Wildcats 8-4-0 (NAC 5-0-0)

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • SUNY Poly opened the scoring in the game's 31st minute, scoring an unassisted goal off of a free kick that went just over MCLA's four-man jumping wall. SUNY Poly's Jhonny Theze was credited with his third goal of the season.
  • The Wildcats doubled their lead in the first half's closing seconds. Following an extremely quick restart off a free kick, the hosts went down the right side of the field. They passed a centering kick that pinballed off a Wildcats player and the left goal post before rebounding to the foot of SUNY Poly forward Miguel Casarrubias for his first goal of the year.
  • An insurance goal was added by the Wildcats in the 55th minute by Thomas Nimineh, who scored his fourth goal of the season on a free kick. In a play that was very reminiscent of a left-footed version of Theze's goal, Nimineh sent a ball directly over the MCLA wall and into the upper right corner of the goal.
  • The Trailblazers recorded their lone tally in the 78th minute. The Wildcats attempted to transit the ball through midfield. Still, junior defender Connor Green intercepted a poorly aimed pass and quickly sent a touch pass along the sideline to Reynaldo Castro, who brought it across midfield and advanced the ball to Benjamin Bonsu. Bonsu centered the ball to Marcos Lopez, who saw Griffith streaking by on his right. Griffith accepted a pass just outside the penalty circle and unleashed a line-drive shot into the lower left corner of the net.
  • Trailblazers' keeper Richard Schineis saw his record drop to 2-1-0 while making four saves before giving way to Ryan Taylor, who added another three saves in the second half.
