Men’s Soccer Frustrate Eastern Connecticut into Scoreless Tie

WILLIMANTIC, Conn.—Despite being outshot by a 29-4 margin, MCLA spoiled the Eastern Connecticut senior day by forcing the hosts to settle for a scoreless effort.

THE BASICS:

  • Date: Tuesday, October 24, 2023
  • Score: MCLA 0, ECSU 0
  • Records: MCLA Trailblazers 5-6-3 (MASCAC 1-3-2) | Eastern Connecticut State Warriors 6-5-4 (LEC 3-3-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Trailblazers' defense was kept busy as their goalkeepers combined for 11 saves to keep the sheet clean for the full 90 minutes. Ryan Taylor had six saves in the first half, while Richard Schineis stopped five in the second half.
  • In the first half, Taylor was kept busy fending off 12 shots, six of which were on goal. The Warriors also enjoyed a 5-2 edge in corner kick attempts in the first half.
  • ECSU continued to harry the MCLA defense in the second half, where they enjoyed a six-to-none advantage in the second half. Schineis held his ground as the Warriors got off a pair of shots on goal in the final two minutes of the game.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • The Trailblazers' third tie of the season equals the second most ties that the Men's Soccer team has had in program history. It is the tenth time that the team has had three ties in a season, the last happening in back-to-back years in 2014 and 2015. The program record for ties is four, which happened in 1974 when the Trailblazers were the North Adams State Mohawks.

UP NEXT:

On Friday, MCLA will be back in action when they play host to Bridgewater State for a MASCAC matchup with the Bears at Shewcraft Field. The teams will take the pitch for a 6 p.m. kickoff. Be sure to arrive early, as there will be pregame festivities to celebrate our graduating student-athletes.
