Doubles play carries Mixed Tennis past Sage 5-4 in non league action

Albany, NY—The MCLA mixed tennis team swept the doubles matches and then held on as the Trailblazers posted the 5-4 win to improve to 2-2 over Sage.  The Gators drop to 0-2 on the young season.

The Trailblazers seized control early by taking all three doubles matches for an early 3-0 lead heading into singles play.  The top duo of Matt Bluteau and Charles Najimy earned a hard fought point 8-7 over Henry Golden and Tyler Schnaible.  Nick Castle and Sam Gawron won 8-4 in the second slot while Briana Higgins and Mackenna Jordan would team up for an 8-3 win giving MCLA the sweep and a 3-0 edge.

In singles, Sage would take the top three matches, but MCLA would respond.  Gawron earned her second point of the afternoon in the fourth slot in straight sets and Mohamed Mahrous defeated Ryan Burke to give MCLA their fifth and final point.

MCLA is back in action on Sunday with a key NAC matchup at Thomas (ME).
