MCLA drops a pair of games in Fort Myers

Fort Myers, Fl- The MCLA Softball team dropped a pair of games this afternoon in the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic, falling to Mitchell College in a five inning final of 11-3 before dropping a heartbreaker to Nichols College by a score of 7-6.

Mitchell broke open a close game late, tacking on runs in the fifth to earn the run rule victory.

Mitchell scored ten runs in the final three innings as Sam Barbarotta took her second loss of the season. MCLA actually led 3-0 before Mitchell erupted for eleven straight runs.

MCLA had five hits, all singles as Kendra Hobbs led the way going 2-2 with a walk and a stolen base. Kayla Koumjian was 1-1 with a pair of walks. Erin Kelley had a tough day going 0-3 and leaving five Trailblazers on base.

In the nightcap, MCLA led 6-3 entering the bottom of the seventh, actually keeping the three run advantage with two outs before Nichols rallied.  After a base hit drove in a run, a Trailblazer error put runners on second and third.  A walk off double would eventually doom MCLA.

MCLA had chances to break the game open in the sixth and seventh. MCLA had a runner on 2nd with nobody out in both innings but couldn't push the insurance runs across.

Ainsley MacDonald threw her second complete game in as many days, but ran out of gas and was the tough luck loser. MacDonald is now 1-1 on the young season.

Newcomer Serina Stimpson was the hitting star of the game for the Trailblazers going 2-4 with a double, two rbi's and three runs scored.  Angelica Perfido reached base safely three times and Kayla Koumjian was 1-3 with an rbi.

The Trailblazers are now 1-3 heading into tomorrow's action.  MCLA will play Potsdam at 1:00 tomorrow and Stevens Institute at 3:00.
