MCLA rallies but comes up short, drops two on the day

Fort Myers, FL- The MCLA softball team dropped a pair of close games this morning. They lost their first game of the day to Olivet 3-0 and then a late rally came up short and they lost to Pitt-Bradford 7-4. With both of those losses the Trailblazers fall to 3-7 and 1-6 on their spring break trip.

Olivet pitcher Jessica Duell seemed like she was going to curse through the day going into the third inning with a no-hitter. Michaela DiNicola kept her hot bat going and made sure to ruin that. DiNicola was one of two players with hits in the first game as MCLA's bats went silent.

MCLA took some momentum going into the top of the sixth inning when Kendra Hobbs caught a fly ball and the runner on third tried tagging and she threw a bullet to catcher Abby Lucas to end the inning. Unfortunately, MCLA couldn't produce.

Game two seemed to be a bit different for the Trailblazers. Two late rallies came up short for the Trailblazers, but they scored four runs. The most runs they've scored since the second game of their trip.

Sam Boyle lead off the third inning with a single to right field, moved to second and third on back to back ground balls and then an error by the third baseman scored Boyle for the first run.

The Trailblazers were held scoreless for another three innings before they rallied to score three runs on four hits in the sixth. A single by Sam Barboratta an Abby Lucas walk and a single by Megan Boyer loaded the bases for Shelby Clary. Clary ripped a 2 RBI single to cut Pitt-Bradfords lead to two but that was all the Trailblazers could manage for the day.

Pitt Bradford pitcher Syndey Mosby couldn't prevent Boyer from reaching base. Boyer went 3-3 with two singles and a double.

MCLA will take tomorrow off before they hit the field for the last time of their trip on Thursday.
