MCLA splits with cross town rival Williams

North Adams, MA- The MCLA Trailblazers picked up a win this afternoon against cross town rival Williams College before they dropped the nightcap. MCLA now has a record of 19-20 and Williams ends their season at 16-21.

Rachel Quackenbush and the Trailblazer defense kept Williams scoreless in the first game, winning 3-0. Quackenbush gave up five hits and struck out five.

The Trailblazers got on the board quick in the bottom of the inning. With two outs Amanda Meczywor earned a walk and came around to score on Angelica Perfido's double. The inning didn't end there as the next batter up Sam Barbarotta singled and Perfido came around to score.

MCLA scored the final run of the game in the bottom of the second. Megan Boyer hit a leadoff single. Boyer then advanced to second on a wild pitch and moved to third on a ground ball out. Quackenbush helped herself at the plate by hitting a sacrifice fly to right.

Meczywor, Barbarotta, Perfido, Boyer and Quackenbush all recorded hits for the Trailblazers.

The nightcap went different for the Trailblazers as they lost to a game called by the mercy rule.

Pitcher Ainsley MacDonald kept the Ephs off base until the third inning when their bats came alive. An infield error put Merrilee Weston on first; a base hit by pitcher Emalie Rott put runners on first and second with no outs. A sacrifice bunt moved the runners up. Theresa Legan hit an RBI single and that was the first of four runs they went on to score in the inning.

Williams went on to score in the fourth, fifth and sixth inning on seven hits. Rott helped herself at the plate going 3 for 3 and scoring all three times she reached base.

MacDonald was tagged with the loss while Rott earned the win.

The Trailblazers will be off until Friday when they host the winner of Worcester and Framingham in the second round of MASCAC. Game time is scheduled for 3:00.
