Softball seeded second in MASCAC tourney, hosts second round game Friday

North Adams, MA- The MCLA Softball program has earned the second seed in the upcoming MASCAC championships this weekend.  As a result, the Trailblazers have a bye in the opening round and will host a second round game this Friday at 3pm.

MCLA, under the direction of third year coach Mike Ameen, finished the regular season 19-20.  However, in MASCAC play, MCLA was a solid 10-4.  They earned the tiebreaker over Worcester State by virtue of their sweep of regular season champion Bridgewater State.

The Trailblazers will host the winner of #6 seeded Framingham State and #3 seed Worcester State.  Those teams will face off Thursday at 5pm in Worcester in an elimination game.

The weekend play will all be hosted by regular season champion Bridgewater State University as the Bears went 11-3 in conference play. 

The Trailblazers are led off the mound by freshman Rachel Quackenbush.  The freshman went 9-6 with an impressive 1.33 ERA in 95 innings.  She was even better in conference play, going 8-2 with a 0.95 ERA with 92 strikeouts.  She already has broken the school record for strikeouts in a season with 121.

Offensively, MCLA is led by Michaela DiNicola who posted a .342 batting average.  Megan Boyer has also been productive knocking in 23 runs while batting .290.  Amanda Meczywor is another threat in the Trailblazer lineup.
