Quackenbush named Co-MASCAC Rookie of the Year

2013 Softball All MASCAC Release

North Adams, MA- MCLA freshman pitcher Rachel Quackenbush has been selected as the 2013 Co-Rookie of the Year as announced by the MASCAC this afternoon.  Quackenbush will share the honor with Tori Cyrus of Fitchburg State.

Quackenbush, who joined the squad after spring break, went 9-6 in 17 appearances for MCLA.  She got off to a sluggish start by losing her first two outings, but then hit stride by going 9-4 the rest of the way.

She no doubt saved her best for last.  Over her last six outings, she has allowed just four runs in 40 innings.  Over that same stretch, she has struck out an amazing 56 hitters while posting a miniscule 0.35 ERA.  She won all six of her starts as well.

For the season, she has set a single season record for strikeouts with 121.  Her ERA stands at 1.33, good enough for third in the conference.

Quackenbush is the first Trailblazer softball player to earn the Rookie of the Year nod.  She will lead MCLA into the postseason on Friday when they face off against the winner of Framingham State and Worcester State at 3pm.
