Four Trailblazers named to the All MASCAC Softball Team

North Adams, MA- The MASCAC has announced their 2013 All Conference teams following a vote of the league's coaches.  MCLA was well represented in the voting, placing four Trailblazers on the squad.

MCLA's Rachel Quackenbush was selected as the MASCAC Co-Rookie of the Year and a first team selection.  She was joined on the first team by utility player Amanda Meczywor.  Named to the second team were senior Megan Boyer and freshman Micheala DiNicola.

Trailblazer head Coach Mike Ameen was tabbed as the Coach of the Year.  Ameen led the Trailblazers to a 19-20 mark in 2013, including a 10-4 record in league play earning the second seed in this week's MASCAC tournament.

Quackenbush didn't take long to make her mark on the MASCAC.  The freshman from Hoosick Falls, NY went 9-6 during the regular season while setting a school record for strikeouts in a season with 121.  She posted a solid 1.33 ERA and combined with the Trailblazer bullpen to No Hit Mass. Maritime last weekend.  She shared the Rookie of the Year honor with Fitchburg State's Tori Cyrus.

Meczywor was named to the first team as a utility player.  The sophmore from Adams, MA's primary positions were off the mound and at shortstop.  She posted a 3-4 record off the bump, but did have a 2.18 ERA.  Offensively was her biggest impact.  She posted a solid .298 batting average while driving in 22 runs. 

Boyer saved her finest season for last.  The senior first baseman from Clarksburg, MA batted .290, but led MCLA with 23 RBI and 10 doubles.  She provided leadership and delivered some key hits in leading the Trailblazers to a second place MASCAC finish.

DiNicola burst onto the scene as a freshman leading MCLA in batting with a .342 average.  The Lanesboro, MA native scored 19 runs and drove in 8 on the season.  She committed just one error from the outfield. 

Bridgewater State's Brianna Strecker and Amber White were the MASCAC player and pitcher of the year respectively.
