Rachel Quackenbush's 16 K's help Trailblazers win first game

Fort Myers, FL- The MCLA Trailblazers split on the afternoon losing their first game to Dominican 6-1 before coming back and beating Elms College 2-0. MCLA is now 1-3 on their Spring Training trip.

Dominican came out with hot bats scoring five runs on seven hits in the first two innings. MCLA's defense would then hold them scoreless in the third inning and Dominican would score their sixth and final run of the game in the fourth inning.

MCLA would score only one run which came in the second inning. With two outs Tanelle Ciempa worked a walk and scored on Abby Lucas double to left centerfield. That would be the only offense MCLA put together as winning pitcher Sarah Slouber would only give up only one hit over the next five innings.

Amanda Meczywor would take the loss in the circle.

In game two, Rachel Quackenbush dominated in the circle. Quackenbush would break her single game record tallying 16 strikeouts. She gave up four hits facing one batter over the limit.

MCLA the designated visitor in the game scored right off the back. Michaela DiNicola led off with a single, moved to second on Alex Romano's sacrifice bunt and scored on Meczywor's single.

The Trailblazers would score again in the fourth inning. Sierra Bailey beat out a bunt, was moved to second on another MCLA sacrifice bunt and scored on Shelbi Clary's single to right.

Both Meczywor and Clary went 2-3 for the Trailblazers.

MCLA's defense would not allow an Elms base runner to get past second base.

Quackenbush is now 1-1 in the circle. Quackenbush and the Trailblazers will look to even their record tomorrow when they travel to Cape Coral, FL for another doubleheader starting at 1:00pm.
