Trailblazers split on the afternoon

Cape Coral, FL- MCLA's late inning rally in the first game wasn't enough to earn the win over Edgewood Collge, but the hot bats carried over to their second game of the day and they earned themselves their second win of the season.

MCLA came up short in the first game against Edgewood College falling 4-2. Michaela DiNicola earned herself a walk to lead off the game, was sacrificed to second and moved to third on a ground ball out but was stranded there to end the first.

MCLA down 4-0 would eventually score one run in the fifth inning but again stranded a runner on third. Shelbi Clary singled to centerfield advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on a booted ball by Edgewood's shortshop. Holding Edgewood scoreless in the bottom half of the inning, MCLA scored again in the sixth inning. Amanda Meczywor led off with a single and advanced to second when the centerfielder misplayed the ball. Meczywor advance on Abby Lucas' infield out and then scored when Samantha Barbarotta got herself into a run down after earning a walk.

Rachel Quackenbush pitched the fifth and sixth inning, shutting down Edgewood's offense, but Meczywor would take the loss.

MCLA's offense took advantage of  Rockford's errors as they scored five runs on two hits in the first two innings. That was all the Trailblazers and Quackenbush needed to earn their second win.

Quackenbush came out firing retiring the first six batters she faced. She went on to earn 15 strikeouts in seven innings pitched.

MCLA's defense once again didn't allow a runner past second base.

The Trailblazers are now 2-4 and will take tomorrow off. They have four more games down south. They will take the field again on Tuesday for a 9:00 am and then again at 11:00 am.
