Clermont, Fl- The MCLA Softball team opened their 2015 season this morning in the PFX Athletics tournament in Clermont, Fl.  The Trailblazers dropped the opener to Smith College 10-2 in five innings, before falling to the University of New England 6-2 in the nightcap.  The Trailblazers are 0-2 on the young season, while Smith moved to 1-0 and UNE improves to 2-0.  

Smith took charge right away scoring four runs in the first inning and added two more in the second. Smith plated four more runs in the middle innings, all against Rachel Quackenbush. Quackenbush surrendered ten runs (six earned), allowing eight hits and walking five. The Trailblazers committed four errors behind Quackenbush. MCLA would score two in the bottom of the fifth, but that was all they would get as Smith prevailed in five innings 10-2.

Game two of the day was deja vu for the Trailblazers as UNE got off to a quick scoring three in the first inning off starter Amanda Meczywor. MCLA would get one back in the bottom frame and trailed 3-1 after one inning. , UNE would get it back in the second and tacked on two more in the top of the fifth to pull ahead 6-1. Abigail Lucas singled in Quackenbush in the bottom of the sixth, but MCLA couldn't muster more of an attack and dropped thier second game of the day by a score of 6-2. 

Meczywor went the distance, taking the loss, allowing six runs (four earned) on six hits; she walked three.

Quackenbush and Angelica Perfido both went 1-2 at against Smith.

In game two Lucas went 2-2, and Quackenbush went 2-4 with a double and two runs scored. 

Quackenbush and Meczywor both struck-out five and fall to 0-1 on the young season.

The Trailblazers are back out on the field tomorrow morning at 9:00 versus Southern Maine and 11:00 am against Lesley.
