Softball holds off Endicott, falls to Luther

Clermont, FL- The MCLA Softball team started off their doubleheader with a tight 5-4 win over Endicott college but we stopped short in their nightcap against Luther College, losing 14-1. The Trailblazers are now 2-4 in their young season while Endicott also goes into a 2-4 record and Luther stays undefeated, 14-0.

MCLA had a quick start, putting the first point on the scoreboard after Mikayla DiNicola was able to score from a grounded out by Abigail Lucas. Endicott counteracted, bringing in one run in the second and two more in the third. The Trailblazers rallied in the fourth after Jennifer Sicinski doubled and brought in two runs. Juliana Watson followed with a single and Sicinski scored. Endicott lowered the lead by adding a run in the bottom of the fourth. MCLA pushed ahead, adding their last run in the sixth. Final score 4-5 MCLA.

In their second game, Luther College came out on fire. Luther was able to earn six runs in the first inning, including a homerun by Kristen Winter that brought in three RBIs. Luther would again make a statement in the third inning, bringing in six more runs against Trailblazer pitcher, Amanda Meczywor. It wasn't until the fourth inning that MCLA would gain their only run of the game, after Quackenbush was able to score off of Sicinski's hit. Luther would go on to scoring another two runs in the fifth inning before ending the game on mercy rule. Final score 14-1 Luther.

Rachel Quackenbush tallied up 14 strikeouts against Endicott and Jennifer Sicinski went 2-3 at bat including earning 2 RBIs.

Meczywor was able to gain two strikeouts against Luther and Quackenbush was 1-2 at the plate.

The Trailblazers are back on the field tomorrow at 3:00 and 5:00 pm.
