Softball splits a pair of one run games on opening day

Clermont, FL- The MCLA Softball program earned a hard fought 1-0 win over UMass Boston in the season opener, but they dropped the nightcap to Clarkson by a score of 7-6 at the NTC spring games.  MCLA is 1-1 on the season.

In game one, neither team could muster much offense.  In the eighth inning, MCLA freshman Katelyn Berghela would scamper home on a wild pitch for a 1-0 lead.  MCLA starting pitcher Rachel Quackenbush would set down the Beacons in order to preserve the victory and the shutout.

In game two, MCLA was out in front 4-1 through three innings before Clarkson scored six times in the fourth.  The Trailblazers would rally in the 5th and score a pair of runs, however they squandered chances to tie it up in the 5th and 6th innings.

Katelyn Henault started on the mound and absorbed the loss.

The story will be updated when stats are available.

MCLA will battle Endicott and Lasell tomorrow beginning at 1pm.
