Quackenbush tosses one hit shutout and strikes out 15 in win over Norwich 5-0

Clermont, FL- MCLA senior Rachel Quackenbush tossed her second shutout this season allowing just one hit and striking out 15 batters in leading the softball program past Norwich 5-0 this afternoon in Clermont, FL.  The Trailblazers are off to their best start since 1994 and sit at 4-1.  The Cadets fall to 0-4 on the young season.

Quackenbush twice struck out the side as she came up just shy of the 16 strikeouts she had during her sophomore season.  The hard throwing senior allowed a hit with two outs in the third inning.

The Trailblazers scored a pair of runs in both the second and third innings.  Samantha Boyle had the key hit in the second inning as she drove a double to score Chelsea Coleman and Sierra Bailey.

In the third, MCLA scored a pair of unearned runs with Coleman in the thick of things again.  The freshman singled to score Michaela Dinicola and Kate Berghela making it 4-0 after three.  Quackenbush allowed just one base runner the rest of the way as she shut down the Cadets.

MCLA would score their fifth and final run on an RBI double from Berghela.

Payton Warner had the lone hit for Norwich while Emily Oliver took the loss.

Berghela had three hits for MCLA to lead the offense.  Dinicola and Coleman each finished with two hits.
