Softball drops pair of games to close southern trip

Clermont, FL- The MCLA softball team dropped a pair of games today as they fell to North Central 5-3 in the opener before falling 4-1 to Allegheny in the nightcap.  The Trailblazers will return north with a mark of 4-6.

Game Two- Allegheny 4-1

Allegheny scored three times in the second inning as they took control.  An infield miscue led to the final two runs of the inning putting the Trailblazers behind 3-0 early.  The Gators would add another run in the fourth off MCLA starter Kate Henault making it 4-0.

MCLA would threaten in the sixth inning when they scored their lone run of the game.  Chelsea Coleman singled and was sacrificed to second base.  Abby Lucas moved her to third with a single and Coleman scored on an Alex Romano groundout.  The Gators would escape further damage when Sam Boyle grounded out.

The Trailblazers would go quietly in the seventh as they went down in order.

MCLA only mustered five hits on the afternoon.

Henault took the loss going the first four innings before being relieved by Rachel Quackenbush.

Game One- North Central 5-3

The game was scoreless after three innings before North Central asserted themselves with a three run uprising in the fourth off MCLA starter Quackenbush.  MCLA threatened in the bottom of the inning, but a double play wiped out the Trailblazer rally.

North Central would add another run in the fifth on a Trailblazer miscue before MCLA showed signs of life.

MCLA took advantage of some walks to score three times in the sixth cutting the margin to just 4-3.  North Central would add an insurance run in the top of the seventh however, and then close out MCLA in the bottom to earn the win.

Quackenbush was tagged with the loss going the first five innings.
