Offense carries Softball to MASCAC sweep of Mass. Maritime
Buzzards Bay, MA- MCLA sophomore Kara Adams went 4-4 and led a 13 hit offensive attack to lead the Trailblazers to a game one 9-3 MASCAC victory over Mass. Maritime this afternoon. MCLA continued their strong offense with a 15 hit attack as they completed the sweep with a 10-5 win. The Trailblazers improve to 6-12 overall and are now 2-4 in the MASCAC. The Buccaneers drop to 2-14 overall and are 0-6 in the conference.
Game One:
Adams started the scoring in the first when her single brought hom Kaitlyn Berghela, who had walked and stole second, for an early 1-0 lead. MMA took a brief lead with two runs in the second inning off of MCLA starter Adams for a 2-1 edge. The Trailblazers would respond though, and once again Adams was in the middle of it.
Her single to left centerfield scored Kayla Baker to tie it up at 2-2 and Nevada Nelsen's two run single gave MCLA a 4-2 lead, one they wouldn't relinquish. MMA got a single run back in the fourth, but MCLA put the game out of reach with five runs in the sixth.
Alanza Quinones delivered a two run single and Fran Belli knocked in a run with another single to make it 7-3. A MMA miscue brought home two more Trailblazers to account for the 9-3 final score.
Adams went the first 3.2 innings and allowed all three runs. Samantha Feinstein came out of the bullpen to earn the win. She tossed the final 3.1 innings and didn't allow a hit. Feinstein struck out four Buccaneer hitters.
MCLA pounded out 13 hits in the win. Quinones, Baker, and Kaylyn Holliday all had two hits for the Trailblazers.
Game Two:
The Trailblazers scored in every inning but one in game two and eventually pulled away for the 10-5 victory.
Kayla Baker, L'Rae Brundige, and Kaitlyn Berghela all had three hits to lead the team. Alanza Quinones and Kara Adams each ended with two hits on the afternoon.
MCLA trailed in this one 3-1 after just an inning of play. MCLA responded with three runs in the top of the second inning to take a 4-3 lead. Brundige had a two run single in the frame and Kaylyn Holliday belted an RBI double for the Trailblazers.
Berghela's run scoring triple in the fourth increased the lead to 5-3. An unearned run for the Trailblazers increased the lead to 6-3 but MMA answered with a run of their own making it 6-4 before MCLA put the game out of reach with a four run sixth inning.
Adams ripped a two run triple to highlight the key inning for MCLA.
Samantha Feinstein went the distance for MCLA and struck out five Buccaneer batters.
