  • Game #2: MCLA 4, SUNY Cobleskill 5

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Game #1
    • MCLA started the game with a four-run first inning, and then proceeded to add a single run in each of the next four innings.
    • Maddy Teta started the scoring, hitting a two-run home run for her first homer of the season after Hailey Peabody had led off with a single. Madyson Torres singled two batters later, and then moved to third on Kristie Zator's double. Ezmeralda Albright then drove both of them home with a double to put the Trailblazers up 4-0 before SUNY Cobleskill had even picked up their bats.
    • In the second inning, Ella Staffier doubled home Teta from first base after Teta had worked a two out walk. The Fighting Tigers answered back with a run on two hits in the bottom of the frame.
    • MCLA responded with one run in each of the next three innings. In the third inning it was Albright driving home Maggie Closinski with a single to right field. In the fourth inning Teta stole run, stealing home when Torres was caught stealing. Finally in the fifth inning it was Albright making Cobleskill's pitcher pay for a throwing error to put the Trailblazers up 8-1 through five.
    • A seventh inning home run by the Fighting Tigers' Deanna Palme accounted for final 8-2 score.
    • Peabody went the distance in the circle to pick up her second win in as many days, evening her record at 2-2. It was Peabody's first collegiate complete game. Cobleskill's Madelynn Orosz allowed five runs in only one and two-third innings to take the loss and fall to 5-6.
  • Game #2
    • With other pitchers unavailable, Zator stepped up in a big way for the Trailblazers, making her first ever collegiate appearance in the circle, throwing the first four innings before giving way to Sarah Williams.
    • The Fighting Tigers scored a pair of runs in both the second and third innings to take a 4-1 lead through three innings. The MCLA run was scored in the top of the third when Teta's two-out single followed a Peabody double.
    • Both teams kept the other off the scoreboard in the fourth and fifth innings, but MCLA cut their deficit to one after manufacturing an unearned run in the top of the sixth. Staffier reached on an error by the third baseman, stole second and moved to third on a passed ball. Staffier then scored on Zator's ground ball to the shortstop.
    • In the top of the seventh the Trailblazers pulled even when Peabody raced home from second base on Staffier's fielders choice to the shortstop that also scored Williams.
    • Cobleskill took home the win when Emily Lutz scampered home on a wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh.
    • Kimberly Ols scattered eight hits over seven innings to earn her first win of the year, improving to 1-3 while Sarah Williams was saddled with the loss to fall to 5-11.
