Softball Winning Streak Snapped by Framingham State

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. – With a soggy weekend on the horizon, the MCLA Softball team's MASCAC doubleheader with Framingham State was pushed up a day, with the Trailblazers traveling to meet the Rams at the Maple Street Field Complex. After a pair of walk-off wins against Worcester State on Wednesday, MCLA's thoughts of continuing their win streak going againt the Rams were dashed with the host winning both ends of the twin bill.

HOW IT WENT DOWN
- Game #1
- MCLA plated the first run of the game in the top of the first inning, taking advantage of two hits and an error to do so. Graduate student outfielder Maddy Teta (Troy, NY) led off the game with a single to left and moved to third when the pitcher's attempt to get junior second baseman Ella Staffier (Marshfield, MA) at first on a bunt went wide of the mark. Teta then scored on an RBI ground out by junior Hailey Peabody (West Springfield, MA).
- The Rams would respond with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning, scoring the runs on a pair of RBI singles from Eliza Carignan and Ellie Etemad-Gilbertson.
- Framingham added to their lead in the third, fourth and fifth innings, scoring one, one, and two runs, respectively.
- Audrey Gauthier started for the Rams and allowed only two hits and an unearned run in six innings while striking out six to improve her record to 7-2.
- Game #2
- The Trailblazers scored first again in the second game after Staffier hit a one out double and moved to third on Peabody's single to left, and then scored on a sacrifice fly by senior first baseman Madyson Torres (Dripping Springs, TX).
- In the bottom of the second inning, Framingham tied the game at one, scoring a run without the benefit of a hit. They then went at head 4-1 in the bottom of the fifth with a rally that included RBI singles by Etemad-Gilbertson and Makayla Rooney.
- MCLA would storm back to again tie the game in the top of the seventh. Teta started the rally by working a one-out walk and stealing second ahead of Staffier hitting her second home run of the season, driving a 1-2 pitch over the left field fence. Peabody followed with a double to centerfield and two batters later scored on a single by junior shortstop Maggie Closinski (Rome, NY).
- The Rams then walked the game off with a two-out sacrifice fly by Jocelyn Pepe that scored Rooney.
- Gauthier would return for one and two third innings of relief, striking out three to advance her run to 8-2.
