Cold shooting night dooms MCLA women's hoops in loss to Springfield

North Adams, MA- The visiting Springfield College women's basketball team held the MCLA Trailblazers to just 20% shooting as they cruised past the hosts 48-32 in women's basketball action. The start of the game was delayed over two hours due to travel issues with the visitors. Springfield improves their mark to 12-5 while the Trailblazers drop to 6-10.
Jaimie Bickelhaupt paced the victors with 14 points and finished off the double double by collecting a game best 11 rebounds. Heather King came off the bench to add 10 points.
In the opening half, MCLA controlled play early on and when Courtney Durivage hit a three, the home team led 13-11 with 10:32 remaining. From there, the Pride would clamp down. They would hold MCLA without a field goal for the remainder of the half and allowed just two free throws. They would use that time to outscore MCLA 14-2 and take a 23-15 lead into the locker room. MCLA would shoot just 17% in the period.
Springfield continued the run after halftime by scoring the first eight points grabbing a sizable 31-15 lead with 17:53 remaining. MCLA would never get closer than 12 the rest of the way.
The Pride held a commanding 46-26 rebounding advantage, including 15 offensive boards. They overcame 19 turnovers to earn the win.
Kayla Hotaling paced MCLA by scoring 12 points and pulling down 8 rebounds.
The Trailblazers will look to bounce back on Saturday when they host Westfield State at 1pm in a MASCAC tilt.
