Women's Basketball drops MASCAC tilt with Rams 67-50

North Adams, MA-The visiting Framingham State women's basketball got a game high 22 points from Nicole Bostic, while three other players scored in double figures as the Rams downed the MCLA Traiblazers 67-50 this evening in MASCAC action.  With the win, the Rams move to 14-7 overall and are 6-4 in conference play.  MCLA drops to 7-15 and is 1-9 in the conference.

Bostic scored 17 of her 21 in the decisive second half as the Rams overcame a six point halftime deficit.  Payton Bruegger added 13 points off the bench, while Sarah Palace (12) and Lauren Donahue (11) ended in double figures.

The first half got off to a slow start as both teams struggled from the floor early on.  Just about midway through the half, the Rams led 12-11.  From there, MCLA would outscore the Rams 13-2 to grab their largest lead of the half at 24-14 with 3:50 remaining til halftime.  Brayleigh Hanlon scored five points in the spurt for MCLA.

The Rams would respond by closing the half on a 6-2 surge as Payton Bruegger scored four points from the line.  The half would end with MCLA leading 26-20.  Hanlon led all scorers with 9 first half points.  Bruegger scored 7 off the bench for the Rams.  MCLA shot 37% in the opening twenty minutes while holding the Rams to just 19% shooting. 

The second half was all Framingham though as the Rams outscored MCLA 47-24 to pull away.  MCLA still led 33-24 with 18:01 to play before the Rams took control.  They went on a 14-5 spurt to pull even at 38 for the first time since early in the contest before taking their first second half lead just three minutes later. 

MCLA was up 44-43 following a Courtney McLaughlin jumper with 8:04 to play.  The Rams would respond by going on a 12-0 spurt ignited by Bostic.  That gave FSU a 55-44 lead with just 4:41 left.   MCLA would get within nine on the next possession, but the Rams would score the next six points to pull away.

Bostic went 8-18 from the floor for her 22 points.  Donahue filled the stat sheet as she added 6 steals, 5 assists, and 5 rebounds.  Bruegger added 8 boards for the Rams.  Framingham overcame their shooting woes in the first half by tallying 52% in the decisive period.  The Rams also forced 24 turnovers.

For MCLA, Hanlon led the team with 14 points.  McLaughlin added 13 points and 4 assists.  Kayla Hotaling ended with 9 points and game best 13 rebounds. 

The Trailblazers will be back in action tomorrow as they host Suffolk University at 5:30pm.
