Women's Basketball streak stopped at seven as Trailblazers fall 62-49 at Union (NY)

SCHENECTADY, NY -- The MCLA Women's Basketball team has been on quite a roll as they reeled off seven straight wins.  That streak came to an abrupt end this afternoon as the Trailblazers dropped their semester finale 62-49 at the hands of Union (NY).  The Dutchwomen are now 5-1 while the Trailblazers fell to 7-3.

Junior Abby Katz had 12 points and tied her career high with 10 rebounds to lead Union. Katz posted her second double-double of her career. Jenni Barra scored 13 points and Amy Fisher had 11 points with seven rebounds for Union. Natalie Leone dished out a career best six assists for the Dutchwomen, who shot 43%. The hosts outrebounded the guests, 41-31.

Courtney McLaughlin led MCLA with 12 points and Brayleigh Hanlon added 10, while Kayla Hotaling led the Trailblazers with six rebounds and added seven points. MCLA shot 31% for the contest.

Union had a 10 point lead at 19-9 after the first quarter, including a 8-0 run in the final 4:05. Union's lead in the second period got as high as 11 at 22-11 after a three pointer by Leone, and Union led 30-24 at halftime.

The Dutchwomen were up by 14 at 38-24 with 7:14 left in the third, but MCLA went on a 10-2 run over the next 3:23 to pull to within six at 40-34. Hanlon had four of those points. Two free throws by Borg with five seconds to play in the period made it 50-37 where it stood after three quarters. In the fourth, MCLA could get no closer then 14, and Union's largest lead with 20 with 4:34 left after two free throws by Fisher.

MCLA is now off until January 4th when they return to the Amsler Campus Center to take on Southern Vermont College.
