Women's Basketball beaten on road at Worcester State 55-51

Worcester, MA- Worcester State's Kaiylyn Berkel collected 16 points while teammate Britt Herring notched a double double in leading the Lancer women's basketball team past MCLA 55-51 in a hard fought MASCAC matchup.  With the win, the Lancers sweep the season series and are now 8-12 overall and sit at 4-2 in the league.

MCLA drops their third straight game in falling to 7-11 on the season and are now 2-5 in the conference.

The game featured five lead changes and six ties, with many of them coming in the fourth quarter.  The Lancers held a slim 38-36 lead heading into the home quarter, but MCLA started the final ten minutes fast.  MCLA's Courtney McLaughlin scored to open the quarter and when Brayleigh Hanlon converted a three pointer, it was 41-38 in favor of MCLA.  The Trailblazers would move out to a 44-40 advantage before Worcester rallied to take control behind Berkel and Herring.

The duo would each convert to tie the game at 44 and after a Hanlon layup gave MCLA the lead again, Bianca Langford made a pair of FT's to tie it at 46-46 with 4:23 left to play.  McLaughlin would make one of two from the line for MCLA's last lead at 47-46 and on the next possession, Berkel converted an old fashioned three point play to put the Lancers in front for good at 49-47.

Berkel would score WSU's next four points while the Lancer defense kept MCLA at bay as they extended to a 53-49 lead.  Worcester State's Brianna Hackett made two free throws to ice the game making it 55-49 with just eight seconds remaining.  

Berkel went 6-16 from the floor for her 16 point night.  She would add 7 rebounds in the win.  Herring finished with 12 points and 12 boards.  She also added 3 blocks.  No other Lancer was in double figures.  Worcester overcame a 39% shooting night and 15 turnovers.

MCLA was led by Kayla Hotaling who ended with 14 points on just 6-16 shooting.  Emily Moulton ended with 10 points and 8 boards for the Trailblazers.  MCLA shot just 33% and had 12 turnovers in defeat.

MCLA will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Westfield State.
