Women's Basketball falls to Springfield in season opener 76-37

North Adams, MA- Four Springfield College starters scored in double figures as the Pride women's basketball team opened up play with a 76-37 win over the MCLA Trailblazers in non conference action.  The Pride go to 1-0 while MCLA drops to 0-1 as the game marked the season opener for both programs.

The Pride and Trailblazers traded blows in the first quarter that ended with Springfield holding a slim 17-15 lead after Chelsea McAllister made a pair of free throws heading into the second quarter.    MCLA's Mckenzie Robinson drilled a three point to open the second quarter to put the hosts on top 18-17, but that ignited a Pride rally that MCLA had no answers for.

Springfield would outscore MCLA 21-4 to close out the quarter and amass a 38-22 lead at the half.  They would never look back.  The Pride scored the first eight points out of the locker room to put the game out of reach.  They would cruise home from there as MCLA had trouble putting the ball in the basket.

MCLA could only muster 11 points between the pivotal second and third quarters.

Taylor Hall led all scorers with a game best 18 points and she added 5 rebounds.  Gracie Restituyo chipped in with 13 points while Alex Goslin netted 11 and dished out 4 assists.  Emily Jacques ended with 10 points.  Springfield shot a solid 50% from the floor and outrebounded MCLA 39-31 in the win.

The Trailblazers were paced by Robinson's team best 11 point night.  She was just 5-14 from the floor however.  The Pride defense held MCLA to just 26% shooting in the contest and forced 23 turnovers.

MCLA is back in action on Tuesday night when they travel to Cobleskill for another non league matchup with the Fighting Tigers.
