Women's Basketball falls to Framingham in season finale 80-52

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University women's basketball team received a combined 57 points from the duo of junior Emily Velozo (Tewksbury, Mass.) and senior Tiphani Harris (Revere, Mass.) as the Rams closed the regular season with an 80-52 victory over MCLA in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action at the Athletic Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
· The Rams jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first quarter midway through after a three from sophomore Camille Desrochers (Westford, Mass.). Junior Kylah Langston got the Trailblazers on the board with a jumper with 3:20 on the clock.
· The Rams pushed the lead to 13-2 after back-to-back three point plays from junior Emily Velozo (Tewksbury, Mass.) and would lead 16-7 after one.
· In the second, the Rams pushed the lead to 20-9 just over three minutes into the frame and led 31-13 after a put back from junior Julia Sanborn (Dracut, Mass.) with three on the clock before the half. The Rams led 33-17 at the break.
· The Rams received a pair of buckets from Harris to start the third quarter and extended the lead to as many as 19 in the third quarter on a pair of Harris free throws with just over two minutes remaining.
· The Trailblazers closed the frame with eight straight points including a pair of free throws from senior Karina Mattera to head to the fourth trailing 49-36.
· The Rams opened the fourth with a run pushing the lead to 54-38 on a Velozo three point play with just over eight minutes remaining.
· The Trailblazers cut the deficit to 15 (56-41) on a pair of free throws from senior Courtney Pingelski with 6:39 remaining.
· Over the next five minutes, the Rams would outscore the Trailblazers 20-6 including another three point play from Velozo and a reverse layup from Harris en route to the victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
· Velozo's 31 points is a career- high as she connected on 13-of-23 from the floor and added four rebounds, seven assists and three steals.
· Harris just missed a career-high as she tallied 26 points on 12-of-18 from the floor. Harris added nine boards and a pair of blocks. Prior to the game, Harris was recognized during the Rams Senior Day ceremony.
· The Trailblazers were led by 16 points from Mattera, while L'Rae Brundige added 10 points and three boards.
