Slow start dooms women's basketball in loss at Worcester State

Worcester, MA- The Worcester State women's basketball team held visiting MCLA to just one field goal and three points in the opening quarter of play as the Lancers cruised past MCLA 70-43 in MASCAC action from Brissette Court.  The Lancers improve to 10-6 overall and even their conference mark at 2-2.

The Trailblazers drop to 2-13 on the season and 0-5 in the conference.

The Lancers didn't get off to a great start either in the first quarter as they were just 3-15 shooting in the opening ten minutes, yet their defense bailed them out.  WSU led 10-3 after one quarter of action, but they extended in the second quarter.

The hosts would outscore MCLA 22-10 in the period to extend out to a 32-13 lead at halftime.

Both teams played better offensively in the second half, but the hole was too deep for MCLA.

Sarah Blomgren tallied 14 points and snagged 6 rebounds to lead the Lancers.  Mya Mosley added 12 points in the win.  In all, ten different Lancers broke into the scoring column.  Worcester State shot 38% in the win.  They also held a 51-34 rebounding advantage.

Kylah Langston scored 13 points to lead MCLA.

The Trailblazers have a non league tilt with Trinity (CT) on Sunday at home.  Tip off is scheduled for 1pm.
