Women's Hoop held in check in loss to Falcons

Fitchburg, MA- Fitchburg State's Angelina Marazzi scored a game best 23 points to lead the Falcons to a 56-41 win over the MCLA Trailblazers in MASCAC women's basketball action this evening.  The Falcons improve to 5-15 overall and are now 3-5 in the league.

MCLA dips to 2-17 overall and still searching for their first conference win at 0-8.

Marazzi was the only Falcon player to reach double figures as she went 7-15 shooting.  She canned 4-7 shots from beyond the arc and added 9 rebounds, 3 assist, and 2 steals.  The Falcons outrebounded MCLA 50-28 and held a sizable 18-0 advantage in second chance points in the win.

The first quarter ended with the Falcons holding a slim 13-11 advantage.  In fact, neither team held more than a six point lead in the opening half, and that was the halftime score as Fitchburg led 24-18 after breaking a tie at 18 over the final two minutes of the half.

The host began to separate themselves late in the third quarter.  With 3:56 remaining, Erika Ryan's layup pulled MCLA within two at 32-30.  From there, the Falcons would get hot.  They would end the quarter on an 11-2 spurt to take a 43-32 lead.

In the fourth, the Falcons were never truly threatened as the lead remained in double figures the rest of the way.

MCLA was led by Kylah Langston's team best 13 point night.  Ryan scored 8 points, pulled down 6 rebounds, and blocked 6 shots.  Jasmine Pszczola had a nice night off the bench with 7 points and 3 steals.

MCLA shot just 28% in defeat.

The Trailblazers will head to Salem State on Saturday as they continue league play.
