Bertrand Goes Hattie, Women’s Hockey Blows Out Hilbert College

HAMBURG, N.Y. – The MCLA Women's Hockey Team wrapped up their two-game series with the Hilbert College Hawks at the Northtown Center this afternoon. The Trailblazers entered the game looking to extend the program's first-ever three-game winning streak, having opened the season by sweeping a home-and-home series with New England College last weekend and defeating the Hawks less than 24 hours earlier. MCLA's Carlen Bertrand and Alexandrea Bednar continued their hot starts to the season, with Bertrand picking up the program's first-ever hat trick and Bednar scoring twice in the Trailblazers' 7-0 win.

HIGHLIGHTS
- Sophomore defenseman Carlen Bertrand (Timmins, ON / Sudbury Wolves) picked up the MCLA women's ice hockey program's first-ever hat trick, scoring once each period. Bertrand scored the first goal of the game just short of 14 minutes in, while assists were credited to first-year defenseman Breanna Patterson (Argyle, TX / Dallas Stars Elite) and sophomore forward Nicolette Bardsley (Gilbertsville, PA / Chatham University). Her second-period goal was unassisted just over 13 minutes into the frame. She wasted little time picking up her third goal, scoring 68 seconds into the third period with helpers being credited to sophomore forward Katie Pica (Woburn, MA / Woburn High School) and sophomore forward Belle Wurmser (Brick, NJ / Princeton Tiger Lillies). The barrage brought Bertrand's nation-leading goal total to eight.
- Just behind Bertrand was senior forward Alexandrea Bednar (Vita, MB / Univ. of Wisconsin–Eau Claire), picking up a pair of goals, scoring in the first period at 17:36 with an assist from Bardsley. Bertrand doubled up her scoring, knocking home an unassisted goal just under four minutes into the second period. The pair brought Bednar's season total to five, putting Bertrand and Bednar first and second in the MASCAC in goal scoring.
- The next Trailblazer to join the goal party was sophomore forward Maggie Danchak (Chalfont, PA / Philadelphia Little Flyers), who closed out the first frame by scoring with just over a minute to go in the period. Danchak was "Ade'd" by sophomore forward Rebekah Ade (Yucca Valley, CA / New Jersey Colonials). The goal was Danchak's second of the season.
- Rounding out the MCLA scoring was sophomore forward Paige Pouliot (Milan, NH / Berling High School), lighting the lamp for the first time in their collegiate career. Wurmser and Bertrand provided the assists on the goal that would set the final score of 7-0.
- Not to be completely lost in the offensive gluttony by MCLA was the defensive showcase put on by junior goalie Juliette Barney (Braintree, MA / Anna Maria College), who made 38 saves to record the second shutout of her career while improving her season record to 2-0-0. Barney previously shut out Lebanon Valley 1-0 last season on December 12th.
