Bertrand and Bednar MASCAC Women's Ice Hockey All Conference Honors

NORTH ADAMS, Mass.The MASCAC conference office today announced that sophomore defenseman Carlen Bertrand (Timmins, ON / Sudbury Wolves) and senior forward Alexandrea Bednar (Vita, MB / University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire) have been named to the first-ever MASCAC All-Conference Teams. Bertrand was named to the first team while Bednar was named to the second team.

Rivier University's Rebecca McKelvey was named the Player of the Year while Worcester State's Kelsey Czerniawski and Emily Johns picked up Defensive Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year, respectively. Rivier's Marykate Drinkwater was named the BSN Sports Coach of the Year.

Bertrand was honored with her first MASCAC All-Conference appointment. She played in all 26 of the Trailblazers' games this season, starting in 15 of them. The sophomore from Timmins, Ontario was second in the MASCAC with 16 goals and 24 points, trailing only McKelvey's 19 and 31, in those categories. The offensively minded defenseman also provided four game winners including a hat-trick in the Trailblazers' 7-0 defeat of Hilbert College on November 10th. Bertrand also brought home the first-ever MASCAC Player of the Week after scoring four goals and two assists in MCLA's home-and-home season opening sweep of New England College.

Bednar was honored with her first MASCAC All-Conference Team after being named to the ECHA All-Conference Team last season. She played in all 26 of the Trailblazers' games this season, starting in 15. The junior from Vita, MB finished the season with 13 goals, seven assists, and 20 points, trailing only Bertrand in all three categories. She also scored the game-tying goal in MCLA's 2-2 tie against Anna Maria College on February 15th. She also opened the season scoring seven goals in the first five games, capped by a pair of two goal showings at Hilbert College on November 10th and against Framingham State on November 16th.

The All-MASCAC First Team consisted of Bertrand Anna Maria College's Jordyn Bleaney, Plymouth State's Lauren McNeil, Rivier's McKelvey, and Worcester State's Emily Johns and Czerniawski.

Joining Bednar on the second team were Plymouth State's Katie Porrello, Rivier's Molly Dukesherer and Rachel Hinkley, and Worcester State's Sydney Vautour and Caroline Melanson.
