Lacrosse wins second straight with 20-14 win over Johnson State

The Johnson State College women's lacrosse team fell 20-14 to MCLA on Thursday afternoon in non-conference action at Minaert Field. The Badgers fall to 0-4 overall, while the Trailblazers advance to 2-3 on their season.

Johnson scored the game's first goal just :15 into the opening stanza, only to see the visitors counter six minutes later to knot things up. Johnson and MCLA battled back and forth over the remaining 25 minutes, ending the half with a score of 10-11, MCLA's advantage. In the first half, sophomore Nichole Weeks found the back of the net five times and provided one assist.

MCLA took advantage of a lull in the Badgers' momentum at the start of the second half, going on a 8-0 run to make the score 19-10 with 15 minutes remaining in the game. Weeks got the Badgers' back in the game with a goal off of a turn-over that was followed by a goal from Kate Abdel-Fatah to make the score 19-12.

Zoe Elwell earned the win for the Trailblazers, making 13 saves while Julia Collins finished with two saves on the day and was saddled with the loss.

Johnson St. will return to action on Sunday for a contest against Husson University at 10:30 while MCLA will face Mass. Maritime for a conference tilt on Saturday at 7:00pm.
