McNulty, Caney lead MCLA as they rally past SVC 14-13 in overtime

North Adams, MA- MCLA's Natalie Caney scored with 33 seconds left to send the game to overtime and Trailblazer Erin McNulty would net the game winner lifting the women's lacrosse program past Southern Vermont 14-13 at Shewcraft Field.  The final score was the only time MCLA led in the contest as they improve their record to 3-4.  The Mountaineers drop to 1-5 on the season.

The game was originally scheduled to be played in Bennington, VT but was moved due to unplayable field conditions.

With 15:49 left in the second half, SVC's Mel Orrell converted a free position shot giving the Mountaineers a 12-9 advantage.  From there, MCLA would outscore the visitors 4-1 to send the game into OT.  The run was started when Caney scored an unassisted goal with 11:51 left and when Taylor Brewer scored with 6:30 remaining, it was 12-11 in favor of Southern Vermont.

Orrell would connect again to give the Mountaineers breathing room with 5:12 left to play, however MacKenzie Cutler would score on another free position attempt to bring MCLA within a goal setting the stage for Caney's heroics.

The junior would pick up a turnover deep in the SVC end and go coast to coast.  She would beat SVC keeper Sydnee Julian in the upper left corner with just 33 seconds left tying the game at 13.  SVC would have two chances to win it after controlling the draw, but Zoe Elwell kept them off the board sending the game into OT.

In the extra session, SVC would hold the early possession until MCLA would force a turnover.  Caney would feed a cutting McNulty and she would toss it past Julian completing the comeback win for MCLA under the golden goal overtime rules.

SVC controlled the opening half of play and led 8-3 after Orrell scored a pair of goals.  MCLA would trim the deficit to just 9-6 at halftime when Rachel Green tallied with just three seconds remaining in the opening half.

Orrell paced the Mountaineers with 5 goals and an assist for six points.  She also picked up 6 ground balls and had 5 draw controls.  Emily Lesure did most of her damage in the first half but ended with 4 goals.  Kelsey Carrera started in the cage for SVC and stopped 6 shots in the first half of play.  Julian saved 7 shots but was tagged with the loss in dropping to 0-2 on the season.

MCLA was led by Cutler's 4 goals and an assist for 5 points.  Cutler would collect 9 groundballs and had 7 draw controls for the Trailblazers.  Caney would end with 3 goals and 2 assists as she notched 5 points too.  She would add 6 groundballs and 5 draw controls too. Taylor Brewer mirrored Caney's stat line with 3 goals and 2 assists as well.  Zoe Elwell notched her third win of the season stopping 10 shots.

MCLA is back in action when they host Framingham State on Saturday in MASCAC play.  The Mountaineers will also be in action traveling to NECC foe Mitchell College.
