Tietgens hat trick leads MCLA into MASCAC final, Trailblazers defeat Worcester 3-2
MCLA Junior Jess Tietgens notched a hat trick in leading MCLA past Worcester State 3-2 this evening in a MASCAC semifinal game played in Worcester. MCLA moves on to the conference final where it will meet Westfield State Saturday at 5pm. The game will be played at Westfield.
Tietgens would tally her first of the day just four minutes into the contest scoring from the top of the box. MCLA held the 1-0 advantage for the remainder of the half. Worcester would hit the crossbar twice, but could not score in the stanza.
The Lancers would tie the game up just three minutes into the second half. Sensing a momentum shift, Tietgens would answer again in the 59th minute.
Tietgens would net the eventual game winner in the 85th minute when she blasted a shot off the right wing, finding the left corner of the net. It was her 25th goal of the season, tying her own record set last season. The Lancers would notch their second goal with under two minutes to play, however they would get no closer as MCLA would run out the clock.
Jen Wehner earned the win in goal for MCLA collecting 11 saves. Worcester had a decisive edge in shots, however many were from long range.
With the victory, the Trailblazers set a school record for victories earning their 14th this season. The previous mark was set in 1994.
