Tietgens nets lone tally in 1-0 MASCAC win over Salem State

Tietgens nets lone tally in 1-0 MASCAC win over Salem State

North Adams, MA- Senior Jess Tietgens tallied the lone goal in the 51st minute to lift MCLA to a key MASCAC victory over Salem State this afternoon at Shewcraft Field.  With the win, the Trailblazers move to 3-2-1, 1-0-1 in the conference.  Salem drops to 3-4-1, 0-2 in the MASCAC.

Tietgens' goal began off a free kick following a Salem foul.  MCLA's Lauren Ford took the kick near midfield and fired it into the right corner of the box.  Trailblazer forward Danielle Parenteau headed a pass over to Tietgens who was all alone and hammered home her team leading fourth goal of the season.

The first period began with both teams stuck in the midfield.  Neither side could break through, but each had a quality chance to break the ice.  Tietgens actually had an open net from the left wing in the 24th minute, but with her angle closing, she fired wide of the net.  Salem responded by going on the offensive, testing MCLA keeper Jen Wehner.  The Vikings KatyLyn Verrette fired a shot from the top of the box that Wehner had to punch just over the crossbar.  Salem held a 6-1 shot advantage in the opening half.

After falling behind, Salem went back on the attack but could not score the equalizer.  They would finish the day outshooting MCLA 14-5.

Wehner earned the win stopping 7 shots, while her counterpart, Lauren Garchinsky collected one save on the day.

MCLA is back in action on Tuesday hosting Bay Path at 4pm.
